Field Day Hero

On Friday, Blanco Vista held its first annual Field Day for all the students. Although it was non-competitive, and therefore did not give out awards or ribbons, the kids still had a great time. Aidan's class started with the obstacle course (which I ended up getting exactly ZERO pictures of, by the way! Ugh!), then on to the sack-race, then Razor scooter races, then tug-of-war, then 50-yard dash, then lunch, then sandwich race, then hula-hoops, then finally the sponge race. Whew!

The funniest part was the ultra-protective mama-bird that laid two little speckled eggs right in the middle of the 50-yard dash course. We had to improvise because of the folding chair placed over that "nest" in the middle of the schoolyard. That poor bird spent most of Thursday and Friday chasing kids away from the vicinity of her brood.

Regardless of no scores being kept, I can honestly say that Aidan's class "won" nearly every single event. Nobody could even come close to beating us at tug-of-war! So proud of those kiddos!

All I Want for Christhmath...

Brendan has now lost BOTH of his front teeth. When he's concentrating on what he's saying, it sounds fine... but when he's not really paying attention, his speech is hilarious! No sign of any permanent teeth coming in, so he'll talk like thith for awhile. :)

Cinco de Mayo History Reenactment

Friday was a full day. It started off that morning with a history reenactment signifying the reason for celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Most of the kids enjoyed watching living history in motion and hearing the firing guns and cannon!

Fiesta!

The BVES dual language program finally got the opportunity to perform their Cinco de Mayo Fiesta dances together on Friday (May 15th) after the May 1st postponement due to the swine flu scare.

They did so great!!! Aidan has excellent rhythm and coordination--I hate that we missed the window for getting him into dance classes (he now thinks "that's for girls" and would never agree to it). I just wish he could have been seen a little easier... he was in the very back for the entire dance. Made it a little difficult for me to catch a great picture.

Mother's Day 2009

The first card was one Aidan made for me at school. The second card, the boys collaborated on this morning--they're AMAZING little guys! The last picture is of all the goodies I got this afternoon after daddy got home. :) I am so blessed! ♥ ♥ ♥

Brendan is officially a DL student!

Even though it was great hearing the BVES Principal tell us that Brendan scored high enough for automatic entry into the BVES dual-language immersion program, it was such a terrific feeling to open the mailbox and find the acceptance letter, confirming this fact! Way to go, Brendan!!! I'm so proud of my little Kindergartener-to-be! :)

Mrs. Martinez's Birthday

Last Thursday, I pulled all of Mrs. Martinez's homeroom kids from Mrs. Padilla's class to have them put their handprints on a huge birthday card for Mrs. Martinez. It turned out so cute!

So, on Monday afternoon, Leo's mom (Eva) and I had the office call down Mrs. Martinez so that Eva and I could sneak into the classroom. We passed out roses to each of the children and had them stand together, so that when she came back a couple of minutes later, the kids surrounded her to give her her birthday bouquet and the card. It couldn't have been more perfect!

I am so happy that we parents get along so well and enjoy creating lasting memories for our kids and their teachers!
